Harry Potter fever continues to spread across the globe! Universal Studios Japan has just announced that the magic of the Wizarding World theme park is opening in Osaka this summer.
An official date has been set for July 15, 2014. Earlier today, the company hosted an unveiling event where they revealed the Hogwarts castle, which serves as the focal point of the area just as it does in its Orlando counterpart. Several familiar faces gathered for the big announcement, including fan favorite Evanna Lynch and Academy Award-winning production designer Stuart Craig. Also on hand were Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan, world-renowned architect Tadao Ando, and Caroline Kennedy, who serves as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan.
The event kicked off with an “owl” delivering a letter from Hogwarts to President and CEO of Universal Studios Japan, Glenn Gumpel. And when the opening date was announced on stage, the Hogwarts castle was illuminated and guests were treated to a big show filled with lights and fireworks. Evanna then led the crowd in casting the Lumos spell, which brought even more fireworks to the skies.
A website that allows guests to explore the attraction is now live.
