You’ve already seen the team in their civvies, but get a load of the Power Rangers in their brand new duds. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, you can see the brand new uniforms the teens change into whenever it’s morphing time.
If you’re thinking to yourself “Wow, these uniforms are less spandex and more Iron-Man meets Zoom,” you are not alone. Even the Power Rangers‘ production designer knows these new outfits are a long way off from the originals. “It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume,” Andrew Menzies said. “Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”
So while these new symbiotic costumes are a far cry from spandex leotards, director Dean Israelite says they still fit into the Power Ranger mythos. “The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,” he explained. “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”
