Stephen Colbert had quite the guest sitting in the hot seat during The Colbert Report last night – none other than Smaug the dragon! Smaug abandoned all traces of etiquette by crashing through the set as Colbert welcomed him to the show. The desolation of the studio indeed. The impenetrable, magnificent, terrible, insert-your-own-adjective-here dragon discussed his human snacks, blamed his portrayal as a film villain on “typical, liberal Hollywood bias”, and took the time to throw several of his fellow acting-dragon colleagues under the bus (aka Daenerys’ dragons and Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon). If you happen to bump into Smaug on the street any time this week, be careful. He admits in the interview that he hasn’t actually read The Hobbit, and is fearful of spoilers.
The interview must have been quite thrilling for the variety show host, who is well-known for being a superfan of all things Middle-earth. Colbert recently posed as several Hobbit fan favorites to promote The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies, due out December 17.
Check out the interview below – it starts to get Smaugy around the 11:45 minute mark!
