Actor Anton Yelchin, best known for his role as Pavel Chekov in the newest Star Trek movies, died outside his home Sunday morning in a tragic car accident. He was 27.
Yelchin is remembered for not only his critically praised roles in films like Alpha Dog, Like Crazy, and Odd Thomas, but for his incredibly spirited personality and the joy he brought to those around him. The day was marked with sadness for a life that was lost too early, and those who knew him best lamented him.
I loved Anton Yelchin so much. He was a true artist – curious, beautiful, courageous. He was a great pal and a great son. I'm in ruins.

Anton was one of a kind. Such an old soul who was one of the most sincere but also funniest people I have ever met. He taught me what being a humble and hard working artist is all about. His laugh was the best sound in the world, it was so contagious and comforting. He was always up to something to make you laugh especially if you were getting frustrated or being too serious. Anton changed my life in so many ways and I’ll never forget him. Everybody in the Like Crazy family wants to send their love to Anton’s family on this incredibly devastating day. Laphroaig is in my glass my friend. Love you Anton. — Drake Doremus (@drakedoremus) June 19, 2016

The sweetest, most humble, delightful, talented guy you'd ever meet. Worked together for about a year. Shocked. https://t.co/uyg2NlmhqP

Anton is survived by his family, who ask for privacy during this difficult time. He will be seen in five films in the coming year, including Star Trek Beyond this July. Anton’s presence both on screen and off will be missed dearly, but his spirit will live on in the fans who loved him.
