The latest addition to DC Comics’ television series collection is NBC’s Powerless, centered around a group of unpowered people working for an insurance company in a city filled with superheroes, and the cast for the show is already starting to fill up.
THR reports that Vanessa Hudgens has been cast as the lead in the series, Emily Locke, a claims adjuster. Locke “likes to fly under the radar and just get her work done, but she finds herself increasingly exasperated by the disruptive antics of the various superheroes that proliferate in her city.”
Additionally, Alan Tudyk, Christina Kirk, and Danny Pudi have also joined the cast.
Tudyk is cast as Emily’s new boss, Del. He’s “just been promoted — not through any merit of his own, but because he’s the owner’s son. A self-proclaimed ‘rich, overeducated globetrotting wastrel,’ Del is a power-mad disastrous dictator of a boss.”
Kirk will play a huge fan of superheroes, Jackie, who “has plastered her office cubicle with beefcake shots of super guys. New claims department boss Del makes Jackie his personal assistant, and she begins buckling under his unreasonable and impossible demands.”
Pudi is portraying Emily’s best friend Teddy. According to THR, “he spends his days creating time-wasting pranks as a way to make their office, the ‘least super place on earth,’ just a little less ‘unsuper.’”
Powerless is currently being written by Ben Queen, who serves as executive producer of the series with Michael Patrick Jann, who will be directing the pilot. The show has yet to receive a full series order.
