Noah Oppenheim has been signed on to write the script for the third film in the Divergent series based on the best-selling book trilogy by Veronica Roth, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
The third book will be shot as two movies and Oppenheim is currently only confirmed for the third film, Allegiant: Part 1.
Oppenheim recently wrote the screen adaptation of James Dashner’s The Maze Runner, out in theaters this September.
Filming for Insurgent, the second book in the trilogy is currently in production in Atlanta. Insurgent is due out in theaters on March 20, 2015. With Allegiant: Part 1 scheduled for a March 18, 2016 release, it makes logistical sense that preparation of the third film’s script would begin while the second film is still being made.
Producers Doug Wick, Lucy Fisher, and Pouya Shabazian along with lead actors Shaliene Woodley (Tris) and Theo James (Four) are on board for all four films. No word yet if Insurgent director Robert Schwentke who took over the helm from Divergent director Neil Burger will be returning for the Allegiant films.
