Martin Freeman Shows Life After The Hobbit in The Office: Middle Earth

Stuck in a boring desk job at a paper company in Hobbiton? Bilbo’s life after The Hobbit probably didn’t go quite like this.

This week, Saturday Night Live had some fun with host Martin Freeman by combining two of his biggest roles: Tim Canterbury in the original U.K. version of The Office and, of course, Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit trilogy. The result was The Office: Middle Earth, and it’s a show we’d definitely watch, right down to the perfect title sequence.

The sketch also features Bobby Moynihan as Bilbo’s inappropriate David Brent-like boss Gandalf and Taran Killam as Gollum, the office mate whose buttons Bilbo loves to push, plus a few other fantastic cameos.

Lord of the Reams! The One Ring in Jello. Gollum’s suit. The little things are hilarious too, like the agenda behind guitar-playing Gandalf during the office meeting. Items include: “Three Ring Binder,” “Smaug Alert,” “Shire Fires,” and “Someone Stealing Staples?”

We want more right now. Any chance Peter Jackson would be interested in making another movie?
