John Green on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson”

John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars (see here for movie casting news), is going to be on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson umm…now! We’ll be updating this post as soon as he appears!

Check out the book hanging with the skeleton (?! we know):

Looks like he’s up next! We’ll keep things updated below:

The segment opens with Craig reading the book. “It’s like a long, papery blog!” He then introduces him as “the great John Green.”

“My brother and I played Carnegie Hall a few months ago.”
“Because we could!”

John explained that he had emergency dental surgery the day before having to be there, “the day before you’re on television!”
“Well, it’s not really television,” Craig responded.

On writing: “We are professional worriers. You are constantly imagining things that could go wrong and then writing about them.”

Craig asks if this manifests in weird behaviors. “It mostly manifests itself internally, in thinking about all the things that could happen. But that’s what writing is ultimately. You’re thinking about 7,000 different things that could happen and you pick one.”

Craig asks if people are “not as literate” because of Twitter and the like (and asks if there’s any verisimilitude in that statement).

“Reading twitter is reading… I would argue in many cases we read more because we’re reading more Tweets and Tumblr posts…the truth is there are still a lot of people who read books and there are still a lot of books being read. I am not as worried about it as other people are because I still a lot of readers…people choosing to read a book.”

CF: “That’s why I became a Gryffindor.”

John reveals that the Pottermore sorter placed him in Hufflepuff. And makes a StarKid joke. “I wear it with great pride. We’re ferocious! And we’re excellent finders.”

“I go to a lot of Harry Potter conferences because my brother is a wizard rocker.” HEY LEAKYCON! (This is the only one a Green has attended JUST IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING. No, we’re not, you know, all running around our living rooms yelling or anything.)

They were going to read from TFIOS, but instead made jokes about John’s genitals being “front and center” on his next book. Pics or it didn’t happen, Green!

John makes a quick appearance at the end, signing his book to “eBay” for Craig. “It’s my grandmother’s name. eBay McCafferty.”

I don’t think I’ve seen Craig that interested in a guest in a long time. He didn’t even take the time to make the interview as uncomfortable as possible. And just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, John Green goes and makes an AVPM joke that was probably understood by exactly one person in the audience. Loved it.

I saw the Vlogbros when I was at Terminus, though maybe they were there unofficially?

That wasn’t the conference, it was an outside event. :)

John and I both share a love for Geoff – I couldn’t have asked for anything more.
