It looks like another Game of Thrones actor is joining the Marvel universe. The studio has cast Jessica Henwick as the female lead in the last of its solo Netflix shows, Iron Fist. She joins forces with fellow GoT actor Finn Jones, who last month was announced to play the title character, Danny Rand a.k.a Iron Fist.
Henwick will play Colleen Wing, a martial artist who runs her own dojo and becomes an ally to Danny upon his return to New York from K’un-L’un. In addition to the casting announcement, Marvel released a flyer for Wing’s services.
In the comics, Wing was trained in the martial arts by her grandfather and is best friends with Misty Knight, a character who will appear in the upcoming Luke Cage series. In addition to her extensive martial arts training, Wing has the ability to enter a trance that allows her to manipulate her body into healing and protecting itself, and frequently teams up with Luke Cage and Iron Fist in their Heroes for Hire group.
Executive producers Scott Buck and Jeph Loeb are both looking forward to Henwick’s portrayal of the character.
“I’m very excited to have Jessica as our Colleen Wing,” said Buck. “She’s shown us that she can bring both a sense of quiet strength as well as an engaging vulnerability to the character.”
“Jessica brings both a youthful vitality mixed with a strong sense of authority crucial to the character,” added Loeb. “And as anyone who’s seen her in Game of Thrones can attest, she can throw down with the best of them, making her the perfect Colleen Wing.”
Iron Fist will be the origin story for Daniel Rand, who returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist. There’s no set release date for the series.
