Hunger Games Attractions Confirmed for New Theme Park

The long-rumored possibility of a theme park based on The Hunger Games will soon be a reality.

With Mockingjay – Part 2, the fourth and final film based on the original book trilogy by Suzanne Collins, due out this November, Lionsgate has been exploring options to drive fans’ excitement about the franchise into the future. The concept of a Hunger Games theme park has been in play from the studio for nearly two years, and now official plans have been released thanks to a partnership with Dubai Parks and Resorts.

A new theme park, motiongate Dubai (with a lowercase “m”), will include a Lionsgate zone featuring properties from the studio. Announced so far are attractions and a retail location themed for The Hunger Games and a stage show inspired by Step Up: All In and Step Up: Revolution. Set to open October 2016, motiongate Dubai will have 27 cinematic-themed attractions from several studios.

The park will be part of a larger group of theme parks on the way from Dubai Parks and Resorts, which also includes Legoland Dubai and Bollywood Parks Dubai.

Dubai Parks and Resorts CEO Raed Al Nuaimi had this to say about the Lionsgate additions:

Lionsgate’s Hunger Games, Step Up and other signature properties are the perfect centerpiece for one of the most visionary new theme parks in the world. Through this partnership we are offering even more for the whole family to enjoy on their visit and are confident that motiongate Dubai will set a global benchmark as the ultimate movie-themed destination.

There are no details yet on the specifics of the Hunger Games attractions. While we’re cautiously optimistic that they will be great, we can’t help but think it’s a fine line and there are so many ways it could go horribly wrong.

In addition to the theme park plans, Lionsgate has a Hunger Games touring exhibition and stage show in the works.

Mockingjay – Part 2 will be in theaters November 20, 2015.
