Guardians of the Galaxy Plot Rumors

Rumors are starting to surface regarding Marvel’s bridge between the Avengers films, Guardians of the Galaxy. Needless to say, potential spoilers ahead.

Our friends at io9 are reporting that the plot will center around “a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict.” Seems pretty innocuous, right? Could be anyone. Peter Quill (already a GotG member), Vance Astro (GotG member with ties to Thor and The Avengers), or some new creation to serve as an entry point for the uninitiated masses.

Or, as Topless Robot postulates, the pilot in question could be none other than Carol Danvers (aka Ms. Marvel). Sound familiar? She should. For casual Marvel fans, Danvers has been in the supporting cast of a good many recent Marvel ventures. She appears as a regular ol’ pilot in the first series of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, as a plot point and a playable character in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, and as the source of Rogue’s super strength and flight powers in a variety of X-Men continuities. In recent stories, Ms. Marvel is being moved into the role of the new Captain Marvel in an ongoing series by writer Kelly Sue DeConnick.

What does this mean for Guardians of the Galazy? Well if it’s true, it means our first starring female heroine in the new Marvel film universe. Her powers are the result of Kree technology, thus tying her into the cosmic direction the Guardians film will have to take. Additionally, she already has a history with the Avengers and can thus be popped right into the subsequent sequel.

This should all be firmly planted in the rumor column for now, as the only thing we have to on is a one sentence synopsis from The Grid. That being said… holy crap, Ms. Marvel. Guardians of the Galaxy is slated for a 2014 release. Thanks to io9 and Topless Robot for the heads up.

What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments!

This is a really interesting rumor. Although I know little about the Guardians (soon to be rectified), I’m all for more strong female Avengers. Black Widow is awesome, but evening out the ratio a little more would be fantastic.
