Guardians of the Galaxy End Credits Scene to Get Comic Book Backstory

Marvel movies are notorious for fantastic post-movie bonus scenes that keep in-the-know fans in their seats until the last of the credits roll. Sometimes they’re funny (we’re looking at you, Avengers) and sometimes they’re teasers (Iron Man 2?), but none was more unexpected than the star of last summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy postscript.

As it turned out, Marvel had even bigger plans for the return of the Howard the Duck when it announced a new comic series back in November. Though still a bigger mystery remained: what could possibly have happened to land Howard as part of The Collector’s menagerie?

The answer will come in Howard the Duck #2, in which Howard encounters the Guardians and, of course, The Collector. The issue’s description implies we may get a backstory and a sequel to the end credits scene, all rolled into one.

Howard’s first big case has taken him across the universe and landed him in the clutches of The Collector! But he’s not alone as the very popular Rocket Raccoon is a prisoner as well! Have you ever seen a comic book sequel to a post-credits scene in a movie? Well, you will now!

Written by Chip Zdarsky with art by Joe Quinones, the second issue’s cover features Howard and the Guardians taking a selfie. Star-Lord and Gamora are making -what else?- duck faces, along with Howard who can’t really help it. Groot and Rocket are trying their level best too, and Drax appears to be taking the duck-face directions a bit too much at face value (or not, as it were).

The new series will debut in March with the second issue’s Guardians of the Galaxy crossover out in April.
