It’s been awhile since there’s been a casting announcement for Starz’s upcoming American Gods series, but there’s word that the New Gods are filling up their roster. X-Files and Hannibal (and all around beloved) actress Gillian Anderson has joined up as the goddess of Media. The official Twitter for American Gods made the reveal earlier today.

As mentioned before, the New Gods are deities that were born in America, where praising religions and mythological icons has fallen to the wayside and people have begun to revere the ideals of modern life:  technology, conspiracy theories, capitalism, etc. Media is the manifestation of America’s obsession with celebrities and television, and in the novel speaks through characters on TV.

The cast of American Gods already includes Ricky Whittle as Shadow MoonIan McShane as Mr. WednesdayEmily Browning as Laura Moon, Sean Harris as Mad Sweeney, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, and Bruce Langley as Technical Boy,Crispin Glover as Mr. World, Jonathan Tucker as Low Key LyesmithPeter Stormare as Czernobog, Cloris Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya, Chris Obi as Anubis, and Mousa Kraish as a jinn.
