Brace yourselves, Game of Thrones fans. Season five is coming!
With the return of the hit HBO series just a little over six weeks ago, the powers that be in the realm have released the first poster for the upcoming, highly-anticipated fifth season.
While Varys (Conleth Hill) already insinuated in the trailer that the now-on-the-run Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) would be teaming up with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and helping her in her quest to claim the Iron Throne, the image definitely corroborates the fact the two will cross paths, which is something that has yet to happen in any of George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels. This won’t be the only deviation from the books, as it’s also been confirmed that more characters who are still alive in the series will be meeting their demise. You can read more about that here, but beware of spoilers if you’re all caught up on season four.
In addition to the poster, two clips previously only available for a one-time view on the viral Three-Eyed Raven website have now been officially posted on YouTube.
The first shows Jon Snow (Kit Harington) visiting Mance Rayder (Ciarán Hinds) after the wildlings’ defeat and discussing the latter’s life work of uniting 90 clans.
The other video features the unlikely dynamic duo that is Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and Podrick Payne (Daniel Portman). She tells him how she’s not a leader and that all she has ever wanted is to fight for someone she believes in.
Game of Thrones returns April 12 at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
