The first track of the Catching Fire soundtrack will be released on August 26th, and it’s a big one. The track, entitled “Atlas,” will mark Coldplay’s first time recording an original song for a motion picture. “Atlas” will be available on iTunes and all other digital platforms on August 26, 2013. After the beautiful album that accompanied The Hunger Games film, a second album was inevitable, and with a track by Coldplay it is sure to live up to the standard the first album set.
“I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film,” said director Francis Lawrence. “Their unwavering passion and excitement for the project elevated the collaboration even further, and we can’t wait to share this music with audiences around the world.”
It will be interesting to see where the Coldplay song is placed in the actual film (if it is in at all). Taylor Swift’s Safe and Sound was ineligible for an Oscar nomination since it was the second song in the credits. It was also one of very few songs from the album that actually made it into the film. The Hunger Games album worked as more of a companion than a soundtrack, but was an excellent device to get fans excited for the film. The full Catching Fire album, which is a partnership between Lionsgate and Republic Records, will be released prior to the film’s release on November 22, 2013.
