Fantastic Beasts We’d Like to Find

Contributor

Unless you live under a rock or are in fact a magical creature, the Harry Potter fandom erupted today to the news that the “textbook” written by J.K. Rowling for Comic Relief in 2001, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, is being adapted into a movie as part of a new series of her extended Harry Potter work. Warner Brothers approached Rowling with the idea and this will be her screenwriting debut. So this is like getting new written and movie material from the author herself.

Since the minute the news was announced we here at LeakyNews have been all over it speculating and discussing every last detail of what the film might be about and who/what we might see in the movies. Already in the Harry Potter movies we have seen a fair few magical creatures including Dragons, a Hippogriff and a Basilisk to name a few. But there is a plethora of other wonderful creatures from all corners of the globe mentioned in the book that we’d just love to see.

Created from unchecked magical fire, this snake may be the animal version of Voldemort with its gray skin and red eyes. It only lives for an hour seeking out a dark place to lay its valuable eggs. With a traveling wizard out in the woods (alone possibly), an unattended magical fire is something which could definitely happen.

This sounds like a pretty awesome animal from the Far East, and is pretty hard to find considering that it turns invisible when it feels threatened. It looks like an ape and its hair can be used in the making of invisibility cloaks.

Sphinx

You may remember that this was an obstacle in the Tri-Wizard third task. If Scamander travels to Egypt he is more than certain to come across this creature. Used as a guard of sacred treasure and a master of riddles, this would be a great magical creature to see in the movie series. I think this would add a bit of Indiana Jones adventure to the movie. Also, I think J.K. Rowling is pretty good at writing those sorts of riddles/puzzles.

Erkling

This creature sounds pretty terrifying. Found in the Black Forest, Germany, it is a pointy faced elf-like creature which lures children from their parents to eat them. Yikes!

It would also be nice to see the types of mermaids that live in warm climates and aren’t totally nightmarish.
