Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is taking on San Diego Comic-Con and we couldn’t be more excited. Today, a new poster for the film was released in honor of the occasion, and it’s quite a visual treat.
Just like posters past, Newt Scamander is featured front and center, but it’s the art that really makes this one unique. It’s an enthusiastic tribute to art deco design and New York City, especially with the Woolworth Building (aka the Magical Congress of the United States of America headquarters) standing tall behind Newt. The poster certainly places emphasis on location: the eagle imagery and a new twist on the American flag in the upper corners makes it clear that Newt is a Brit abroad.
The character panels on either side of the poster are also an innovative touch, introducing us to some new faces along the way. On the left (from top to bottom) we have Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), a MACUSA employee and Newt’s love interest; Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), an optimistic No-Maj; and Mary Lou (Samantha Morton), the narrow-minded leader of the anti-magic Second Salemers. On the right, we have Percival Graves (Colin Farrell), an auror and advisor to Seraphina Picquery, MACUSA’s president; Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol), Tina’s younger sister and a free-spirited Legilimens; and our first look at Credence (Ezra Miller), Mary Lou’s troubled adopted son.
Tomorrow, the cast (Eddie Redmayne, Waterston, Fogler, Sudol, Miller, and Farrell) and director David Yates will appear at SDCC’s Warner Bros. booth for a signing session. There will also be a Wand Master Training Station for guests to practice spells, and the booth will also feature Lego Dimensions’ new Fantastic Beasts expansion packs.
