Eleanor & Park Headed to the Big Screen

Get ready to see Big Red on the big screen! DreamWorks just bought the rights to Eleanor & Park, written by LeakyCon attendee Rainbow Rowell. Fans of the book should also be excited that Rowell has been hired to write the screenplay. As soon as the script is turned in to the studio, a director will be hired and roles will be cast. The studio hopes to start filming in 2015.

The novel focuses on two teens growing up in Omaha in 1986. Eleanor is described as being plagued by insecurities and somewhat heavy with bright red hair. Meanwhile, Park is half-Korean and finds refuge in comic books. Both teens struggle to find their place in the world, while also trying to navigate a relationship together.

There’s still time until the film starts shooting, so now is the perfect time to start speculating on who should play what role. Personally, I would love to see Hannah McIalwain from season 1 of The Glee Project get a chance to play Eleanor. As for Park, I’m undecided on who could play him.

Let us know who you would like to see play the titular roles. And how soon until we can get a movie version of Fangirl?

*cringes* I don’t really like seeing my favorite books turned into movies… But if it’ll be like tfios, I might be okay with it… Because of John’s love for the movie, I gave in and started appreciating that they were turning the book into a movie. Last week I cried when I saw the trailer in the cinema :)
