Contrary to what sources have been saying, director Francis Lawrence states he will not use any ‘digital trickery’ to finish the last two major scenes involving Philip Seymour Hoffman in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 & 2. In an interview with HuffPost Live Lawrence says:

“He had two scenes with dialogue that were left and we decided we didn’t want to try any kind of digital trickery with him, so we rewrote his scenes and gave his dialogue to other actors. So there was one scene from ‘Part 1’ and one scene from ‘Part 2,’ so we shot both movies back to back.”

Hoffman played Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games series, and reportedly only had a few scene left to film before he was found dead in his New York Apartment. Lawrence says they will have to just rework the script and give lines originally intended for Hoffman’s character to other actors, instead of recreating his performance with CGI.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 opens in theaters this Friday, November 21st, 2015, and Part 2 on November 20th, 2015
