Critics’ Choice Movie Awards Nominations Honor Fandom Favorites

The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards nominations were announced Dec. 15, as we move one step closer to predicting 2015′s tight Oscar race. The awards, chosen by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, include the best in comedy, action and sci-fi, which means that some fandom favorites earn some well-deserved recognition.

Both Chris Pratt and Chris Evans were nominated for Best Actor in an Action Movie for their superhero roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Solider. Zoe Saldana earned a Best Actress in an Action Movie nod for Guardians of the Galaxy alongside Shailene Woodley for Divergent. Her co-star Ansel Elgort was also nominated for Best Young Actor/Actress for his portrayal of Augustus Waters in The Fault in Our Stars.

In terms of Oscar predictions, these nominations firmly placed Birdman as a frontrunner with 13 nominations, but The Imitation Game follows closely behind. One major snub? Foxcatcher failed to earn a nomination for Best Picture or for Steve Carell’s much-buzzed performance.

The comedy category is a bit of a joke this year, considering Kristen Wiig earned a Best Actress in a Comedy nod for acting in the drama The Skeleton Twins. Also, 22 Jump Street, really? One bright light is Rose Byrne’s nomination for being by far the best part of Neighbors.

We’ve included some of the highlights of the huge list of nominees, which you can find here.
