Con Man News: AMA, Stretch Goals, Campaign Updates

With just three days left, the Indiegogo campaign for Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion’s web series Con Man is still going strong. At this publication, the project is an astounding 674% funded, which translates to over $2.8 million raised.

After excited fans blew past the initial handful of stretch goals within the first 24 hours, the Con Man team has been having fun coming up with new incentives to keep the contributions flowing. Extra money means more episodes with higher production value and plenty of bonus content after all. Take the deleted scenes from the introduction video we’ve been treated to so far, like this one (warning that this may not be entirely safe for work, though not graphically so):

At the point of this publication, over 41,000 people have funded enough for a 12 episode Season 1, a DVD/Blu-Ray perk, a comic, a novel, Season 2 development, more perks (like Nathan Fillion’s personal Firefly photo album!), and lots of digital goodies. Reaching the final stretch goal will produce a Con Man game. Completing a series of Funder Achievements such as social media followers, likes, and fanworks, will unlock even more.

Another unique way the Con Man team has been drumming up excitement is its use of the Hang w/ app, which allows the cast and creators to have live video sessions with Indiegogo supporters. Once the campaign ends, the Hang w/ sessions will continue throughout the series’ production, but only be available to funders at the Contributor ($15) level or higher.

Earlier today, the campaign co-founders, creator/star Alan Tudyk and producer PJ Haarsma, held a Reddit AMA to answer questions about Con Man (and other things!). We’ve collected a few newsworthy highlights below:

Alan Tudyk, on his Firefly castmates’ involvement in the series:

Everybody has committed to being in Con Man.
I don’t want to waste their cameos. So I’m hoping for a second season to put them all in. Right now, it’s just Sean and Gina in the first season. Possibly more. The others will be Where’s Waldo? type cameos.

If any Con Man fans will be at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida this weekend (this editor will be!), PJ Haarsma had an update on filming and a campaign countdown get together.

We’re shooting all day Saturday. We’re shooting crowd scenes. Friday night, we’re going to count down the IndieGogo campaign at a local bar. We’ll tweet the location at 7 o’clock.
I’ll be tweeting that from the @ConManSeries.
So keep an eye out.

Haarsma was optimistic about the continuation of the series for as long as it has an audience.

The success of season 1 will lead to season 2. But if I can do seasons 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 – I’ll be happy! We want this to go on as long as possible. We have a lot of stories we want to tell. We want to be able to do it all. We want to hit our stretch goal so we can actually make the GAME. It’s about building out this world and sharing this world.

Tudyk agreed and teased that the option for more than one season would be kept wide open.

Yeah, I have no end of stories to tell in this world.
And season 1 is kind of a cliffhanger! So it suggests another season.

The Indiegogo campaign for Con Man will end on the evening of Friday, April 10, so if you’ve been putting it off, now’s the time to get those contributions in!
