Good news, Community fans! Although it seems like we’re nearing the end of the line for our beautiful little absurdist sitcom, there is still news to be had.
Yvette Nicole Brown is set to return for the season 6 finale! Brown left the show before this season began to care for her sick father. However, she didn’t rule out the possibility of a guest spot.
Brown’s return is referenced in the finale synopsis posted on Reddit:
Episode 13 (Season Finale): Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television
Guest Stars: Paget Brewster, Keith David, Yvette Nicole Brown, Seth Green
As their sixth year at Greendale draws to a close, Abed (Danny Pudi) asks everyone to imagine pitching a TV show about what they would do in season seven. Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong also star.
Directed by: Rob Schrab
Written by: Dan Harmon and Chris McKenna
If this ends up being the last episode of the series, that sounds like a fittingly meta sendoff. In addition, seeing Brown back will be amazing, as this season has felt a little empty, character-wise. Honestly, although it seems incredibly unlikely, we really can’t help hoping for a Donald Glover cameo as well. It’s been a while since we’ve heard someone say, “Troy and Abed in the moooorning!” (Also, a guest spot from Seth Green? What’s all that about?)
Following this season, Community‘s fate is again up in the air. Many are hoping for #SixSeasonsAndAMovie, and at this point, a movie seems like a good way to get all of the missing stars back together for just a while to wrap up the series, perhaps even better than just another season could do.
In a recent interview with Yahoo Screen, creator Dan Harmon talked about all of the different actors, and who might be willing to stay for more seasons. He alluded to the fact that Joel McHale would likely stay on, as well as Jim Parsons, but that he didn’t know where the rest of the cast stood, and that it might be a bad move for many of them to stay.
Then you look at someone like Alison Brie who’s a movie star. She could be out there doing God knows what. So I think if you were Alison Brie, the last thing you’d do is sign a contract to commit yourself to a ton more [episodes of] Community and an unreasonable schedule. I think you’d want to get out there and find out what happens when you have your freedom.
The season (and possibly series) finale of Community is set to air this Tuesday, June 2.
