Community Casts Two New Characters for Season Six

The halls of Greendale are looking a bit empty these days. Chevy Chase and Donald Glover left the Community during its NBC run, and Yvette Nicole Brown recently had to bow out of season 6 to provide in-home care for her father.   And John Oliver is busy with his HBO talk show Last Week Tonight, and it is likely Jonathan Banks, who played one of Greendale’s newest arrivals Professor Hickey, will also not be back, due to his involvement in the Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul.

But today, Community recently announced two comedy actors would added to the cast for season 6: Paget Brewster and Keith David.

Brewster will play Francesca “Frankie” Dart, yet another consultant interested in whipping Greendale into shape. The actress played Emily Prentiss in Criminal Minds, and most recently has appeared in Drunk History and Key and Peele. She also previously appeared in Community in a guest role last season, playing Debra Chambers in the IT department.

David’s character is a retired scientist named Elroy Patashnik, who comes to Greendale to reinvent himself. David has done a great deal of voice acting, and has voiced characters in The Princess and the Frog, Adventure Time, and Coraline. He is also an alum of the show; he narrated the season 3 episode “Pillows and Blankets.”

Production for Community’s sixth season begins November 17th, and creator Dan Harmon has tentatively mentioned a premiere date of January 27th, when it will be available to stream on Yahoo.
