Chris Pine in Talks to Play Wonder Woman’s Love Interest

Variety is reporting that Chris Pine is in talks to play Wonder Woman‘s love interest, Steve Trevor, in the upcoming film from Warner Bros.

In Wonder Woman’s origin story, Steve Trevor is the catalyst that gets her off of Paradise Island, the homeland of the Amazons. He was a United States Army officer during World War II whose plane crashed on the island, and Diana nurses him back to health before following him to the outside world.

It looks like Wonder Woman will be getting her full superhero treatment, with no corners cut. After all, what’s a superhero movie without a (sort of unnecessary) romantic subplot?

Scott Eastwood (Gran Torino) was previously rumored for the part, but Variety reports that he was given the choice to test for the role in Wonder Woman or sign on for a guaranteed supporting part in DC’s upcoming Suicide Squad. He decided to take that part instead.

The studio tested a handful of other actors but decided to look at more high-profile names and go with a straight offer. Pine reportedly won over production execs and Gadot at his meeting, leading the studio to pursue him for the role.

Gal Gadot is set to star in the film, and Patty Jenkins (Monster, Entorage) will direct following Michelle MacLaren’s departure. Wonder Woman is set to hit theaters on June 23, 2017.
