Lionsgate announced that the The Hunger Games: Catching Fire world premiere will be held in London on November 11, eleven days before the worldwide launch on November 22. The first installment, Hunger Games, performed very well in box offices internationally, grossing nearly $700 million worldwide. It is therefore no surprise that Lionsgate is going international for this year’s world premiere.
This announcement is one of several for Catching Fire recently. Lionsgate revealed a major album track by Coldplay, released a new trailer, and released new character posters. With more than three months left before the movie is released, there is still much news likely to come from Lionsgate as anticipation for the second installment grows.
In case you are unfamiliar with the plot of Catching Fire, Lionsgate provided the official synopsis:
The film begins as Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark (Hutcherson). Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow (Sutherland) prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games, The Quarter Quell – a competition that could change Panem forever.
