How Does Superman Shave? Bill Nye, Mayim Bialik and The Mythbusters Reveal Their Theories

As Man of Steel creeps ever closer to our cinema screens this June it’s clear that Superman is still as popular as ever. Henry Cavill who will adopt the iconic role of Superman and his alter-ego Clark Kent is featured within the Man of Steel trailer (previously reported on LeakyNews) sporting a new version of the suit and at one point a beard. Which leads us to question how on earth (quite literally in this case) does Superman shave?

Superman is just that, he’s super. His abilities in the past have included being able to fly, have super-speed and super-strength, heat vision and even invulnerability. So if Superman is invulnerable/ indestructible (that is, besides the use of Kryptonite) then how does he cut his hair and shave? It may not be the most important question in the world, but it is somewhat of a mystery.

In the past various adaptations around Superman have attempted to answer this very question. The most popular theory being that he uses a mirror and his heat vision to laser his stubble away.

It does seem the more likely option in comparison to buying Kryptonite razors, but who knows?

Recently it seems that other, more famous faces have been attempting to answer this very question. The Big Bang Theory‘s Mayim Bialik (Amy) as well as Science guy Bill Nye, The MythBusters, Conan O’Brien and Kevin Smith have all offered up their own theories. But which is the best?

Conan O’ Brien started off the argument on the 20th May with his video response to the “Man of Steel” trailer…

Videos then began to appear days later on Gillette’s official YouTube channel of other famous faces coming up with their own theories and attempting it can be assumed to answer O’Brien’s earlier complaint.

Science guy Bill Nye’s ‘The Material Science’ theory suggests that there is an element to Superman’s beard which is brittle and therefore at a microscopic level there is asperity which he uses a grinder to remove the hair.
