Fans of Divergent might be interested in picking up this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly. The cover story focuses on the popular book series and offers lots of never-before-seen glimpses into next year’s movie adaptation of the first novel. We’ve gotten a few glimpses already, but the photos released have offered little to no insight into how the landscape of the film is actually going to look. They’re finally starting to release the goods, though. A full gallery of photos can be found on EW.com, but here are a couple of the more exciting previews we got into the highly anticipated film.
Though Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) are the two main characters, many fans are very excited to see the other cast members. Most of the photos released show aspects of Tris’s Dauntless training. In one image, Tris chats with her good friends Christina (Zoe Kravitz and Will (Ben Lloyd-Hughes). Personally, I’m most excited about the picture of Tris and Tori (Maggie Q) that gives us a look at the machine used in the faction tests. It’s incredibly close to what I imagined it would be, so it gives me hope that the film is going to look like I pictured it in my head. Other pictures released show Tris going through hand-to-hand combat training, as well as learning to use a gun. My favorite of the actual images, though, is the one of Tris crowdsurfing in the cafeteria. It looks like it will be a really cool moment in the film.
The series very blatantly establishes that the setting is supposed to be Chicago, so I’m excited to see some of the city’s iconic landmarks incorporated into this dystopian landscape. One photo shows Tris and Four with a giant Ferris wheel in the background.
Also announced today was the release of four e-stories from Divergent author Veronica Roth. All of the stories will be told from Four’s point of view and offer more insight into his backstory. The first of the stories, called The Transfer, will be released on September 24 for $1.99, according to EW. The story will specifically focus on Four’s experiences during his Choosing Day and how he came to be Dauntless. It will also offer more history of what the world was like before the beginning of the first novel.
The other stories will be released in the few months after that. The Initiate will hit e-readers on December 17, with The Son on January 21. Finally, The Traitor will come out February 11. Also in the mix is the final book in the Divergent trilogy, Allegiant, which will be released October 22. Last but not least, don’t forget that the movie is set to be released next March.
With all this exciting new Divergent content to be released over the next months, fans can be as excited as Tris appears to be while she is crowd surfing.
