ABC Cancels Agent Carter, Kills Marvel’s Most Wanted

Sad news for fans of ABC’s Marvel programming: Agent Carter has just been officially cancelled, and the network has opted not to move forward with the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff Marvel’s Most Wanted.

The news comes just one week after we posted about both shows’ precarious fates. Agent Carter seemed a shoe-in for cancellation after viewers dropped steadily throughout seasons one and two, and the show was absent from ABC’s previous list of renewals. Series lead Hayley Atwell may at least have her plate full, however, starring in a pilot for the network’s new legal drama Conviction. The fledgling series has a promising shot at getting picked up for a series order, so we have our fingers crossed that we’ll see one of our favorite leading ladies again soon.

The Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood-fronted Most Wanted, however, is a little more of a shock. Last week, Variety‘s sources stated the show wasn’t “quite a lock” but “had a very good chance of going to series.” Other sites were a bit less optimistic, and it looks like they were right—the show will not be picked up. We bid a very emotional farewell to Palicki’s Bobbi Morse (aka Mockingbird) and Blood’s Lance Hunter in S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s thirteenth episode this season, “Parting Ways”, but we would definitely be in favor of some minor retconning to get these two working with Coulson and the team again.

For now, we’ll hold on to S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s fourth season renewal and count our blessings.
